Empowering Native Voices

Empowering Native Hawaiian Voices:

A Nonprofit Talent Brokerage for Philanthropic Representation

In the landscape of philanthropy, diversity and representation are vital for ensuring equitable distribution of resources and amplifying the voices of underserved communities. Yet, the Native Hawaiian community remains underrepresented in philanthropic organizations, hindering their ability to shape decisions and address pressing community needs. To address this disparity, we are proud to introduce a groundbreaking initiative: a nonprofit talent brokerage dedicated to increasing the Native Hawaiian presence in philanthropic organizations.

THE NEED FOR NATIVE HAWAIIAN REPRESENTATION IN PHILANTHROPY

For every $100 given by philanthropic or grant-making organizations nationwide only $.10 is received by indigenous or native communities. Over time, the percentage of grant funding earmarked for AANHPI communities has decreased, dropping from its peak of 0.60 percent in 2002 and 2009. The funding is predominantly concentrated within a small number of foundations, with the top five funders collectively contributing nearly 40 percent of all philanthropic support for AANHPI communities.

OUR VISION: EMPOWERING NATIVE HAWAIIAN LEADERS IN PHILANTHROPY

For our Philanthropono nonprofit talent brokerage, we envision a future where Native Hawaiian leaders are actively engaged in philanthropic organizations, shaping policies, programs, and funding priorities that reflect the values and aspirations of their communities. Our mission is to empower Native Hawaiian professionals to pursue careers in philanthropy and provide them with the support, resources, and opportunities needed to succeed and thrive in these roles.
