Theory of Change
Workshop Session
Your organization is doing meaningful work. But explaining exactly how your programs lead to lasting community change is not always easy.
You may understand the impact of your work because you see it every day. Turning that understanding into a clear plan, evaluation model, or fundraising narrative can be much more challenging.
A Theory of Change can help.
Turn Your Mission Into a Clear Path for Change
What Is a Theory of Change?
A Theory of Change is a planning and evaluation model that helps you create a clear pathway for achieving change within the community you serve.
It connects the problem you are addressing to the activities you provide, the results you expect to see, and the long-term change you are working toward.
In simple terms, a Theory of Change helps you answer three important questions:
What change are we trying to create?
How will our work help create that change?
How will we know whether change is happening?
A strong Theory of Change can help your organization improve its programs, make informed decisions, evaluate progress, strengthen fundraising narratives, and clearly explain its impact to community members, staff, board members, partners, and funders.
Learn a Repeatable Process
In this two-hour workshop, facilitator Yisroel Quint guides participants through a practical process for moving from a clearly defined problem to a draft Theory of Change, logic model, and evaluation plan.
Using a shared example, participants work through each step of the process and learn how to:
Define the core problem their organization is working to address
Identify the root causes and consequences of that problem
Develop clear objectives
Determine the outcomes they want to achieve
Identify the outputs and activities that support those outcomes
Connect each part within a clear logic model
Begin developing an aligned evaluation plan
The workshop clearly demonstrates how each piece builds on the one before it. By the end, participants will not only better understand the framework—they will also know how to facilitate and apply the process within their own organizations.
Yisroel Quint developed the process taught in this workshop by adapting the Swedish International Development Agency’s Logical Framework Approach.
He has applied this approach with more than 80 Indigenous-led organizations working across a variety of locations and issue areas.
The process has helped organizations strengthen program design, sharpen their fundraising narratives, and bring teams together around a shared understanding of the work they do and the change they are working to create.
Following the workshop, Yisroel is also available for additional coaching, training, and facilitation to help organizations deepen their understanding and put the process into practice.
